  • Lumbini, where the Queen Maya Devi gave birth to Siddharta Gautama, is located in the foothills of Himalaya. It is one of the four Buddhist holy place, while the others are at  Kushinagar, Bodh Gaya, and Sarnath. Lumbini where the Buddha lived till the age of 29, is situated at 25 km east of the Kapilavastu and 300 km west of Kathmandu. where the Buddha lived till the age of 29. In the Buddha’s time, Lumbini was said to be a very beautiful garden full of shady Sal trees. Lumbini was a garden situated right between Kapilavatu and Devadaha. In this Lumbini complex, you can see Ashokan Pillar. It is a stone pillar with a horse figure on the top of it which were built by Emperor Ashoka In 249 BC.
