Vanuatu Weather

Vanuatu is the small beautiful country located in the South Pacific Ocean between Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Australia and Fiji. From the point of temperature, Vanuatu weather conditions remain rather comfortable most of the time, as the temperature is quite uniform throughout the year and the islands get rather much sunshine. Vanuatu weather varies from wet tropical in the north (over 4000mm of rainfall a year) to subtropical in the south (less than 2000mm), with dry rain-shadow areas in between.

Vanuatu weather is roughly divided into a dry season from May to October (the austral winter) and a wet season from November through April. Winter is from April to September with the temperature averaging 23°C. Light weight casual clothing plus a sweater is usually sufficient. November & December are warm but not generally unpleasantly so. January to March is hot (26-34 degrees Celsius), often wet and prone to cyclones. The warmer months from December to April are also the wettest with good rain in every month. Being there in low season it’s also a good time of year to take advantage of travel deals. Sea temperature varies from 22 to 28 degrees making swimming enjoyable all year round.

The majority of resorts are located in the southern part of Vanuatu where it is less humid, there is less rain and there is less chance of extreme climate conditions. Generally speaking, further south you go, the drier it becomes; further north, the more humid and subject to more rain.
